Stealing the show

I remember when David walked into the office for the first time, the room stopped and stared at him as he walked through. As i would come to know, this was a common occurrence. His ability to draw the room's attention, without saying anything was uncanny, and the void was obvious when he left said room. As time went on, although guarded and private I got to know David as a friend, whether it was "what are they thinking" messages over slack when emails came in or taking the piss out of how little some people in agencies knew, we bonded over the confidence in his own skills and knowledge.

The everlasting memory i will have with David is that of a random after-work drink that spiralled into dancing to Sean Paul in Barrio of all places. Both of us knowing it was a terrible place, but the not caring. Instead laughing through the night with the group. As the bars closed we went back to a mates to carry on with the G&Ts and thats where it felt like this could be the start of a friendship that transcended work. Laughing into the early hours and talking until we all started falling asleep where we sat. The night came to an end and we said we would do it again soon. Lockdown saw to it that we didn't get a chance, in fact one of the last conversations over slack with David were about doing it again soon since it looked like it was coming to an end.

that night, like David was unique and can't be recreated no matter how much we would want. I was lucky to be able to share in that night with him, it was the impact he had on all our lives, short but oh very sweet. If we all aspire to be more like David in all the traits everyone is sharing about him - the world will be a better place

wherever you are David, i hope you are raising a drink and having a laugh lighting up whatever room you are in. We miss you x
